Behind the jewellery

ONKO Jewellery is an independent jewellery brand based in Helsinki.

The brand creates button jewellery — small sculptural pieces designed to attach directly onto the buttons of a shirt. By shifting jewellery from the body to clothing, the pieces offer a subtle and unexpected way to wear jewellery.

All pieces are designed and made in Helsinki from recycled sterling silver, with casting done in collaboration with a local foundry in Kirkkonummi. The jewellery combines minimal forms with a focus on material, detail and usability.

Button jewellery introduces a new category within contemporary jewellery. The pieces are compact, lightweight and easy to use, making them well suited for everyday wear as well as for design-focused retail environments.

The name ONKO comes from the Finnish language and reflects a sense of curiosity — a small question that invites new ways of seeing and using jewellery.

In addition to button jewellery, ONKO also produces occasional experimental pieces, such as silver potato pendants, which explore the boundary between jewellery and small design objects.

Our take on sustainability

Jewellery
All of our jewellery is made from recycled sterling silver. Our silver comes from K.A. Rasmussen Oy, Finland.

Boxes
Our boxes are ECO products from Westpack (Denmark). Boxes are made in a factory in Denmark using FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue.

Process
Our product design usually begins with hand-drawn sketches, followed by physical prototyping and refinement through precise 3D modeling. Once perfected, the final 3D model is sent to Koruvalimo K. Raiskinen Oy in Kirkkonummi, Finland, for casting. After casting, each piece is carefully hand-finished in our studio and thoroughly tested to ensure quality.

Any excess silver from the production process is melted down and reused, minimizing waste and supporting environmentally responsible craftsmanship.

Our future plans
In addition to using recycled sterling silver and FSC®-certified packaging, we are actively working to ensure that more of our materials, such as packaging boxes, will be sourced locally in Finland in the future. This will further support our goal of minimizing our carbon footprint and strengthening local partnerships.

We are eager to take part in testing and innovating new sustainable solutions within the jewellery industry! If you are looking for partners for testing out new solutions or cooking some new ideas don't hesitate to contact us at hello@onkojewellery.com. Let's do it!

Care guide for your jewellery

Keep your goodies in good shape

→ Wear with Care:
Sterling silver can scratch or tarnish over time.

Avoid exposing your jewellery to harsh chemicals such as perfumes, lotions, or cleaning products, which can dull the finish.

→ Cleaning your jewellery:
Gently clean your silver pieces using a soft polishing cloth to restore their shine. For more thorough cleaning, use a mild soap and lukewarm water solution. Rinse well and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive materials that can scratch the silver.

→ Storing your jewellery:
When not in use, store your jewellery in a cool, dry place, ideally in a fabric-lined box or a soft pouch to prevent tarnishing and scratches. Storing pieces separately ensures they don’t rub against each other.

→ Regular maintenance:
Exposure to air and moisture can cause silver to tarnish. If your jewellery becomes heavily tarnished, use a silver-specific cleaner to restore its shine. Be sure to follow the product’s instructions carefully, and use a soft cloth for application.

By following these care instructions, your ONKO jewellery will continue to shine and be a lasting part of your style for years to come.

Ring size guide

Honestly – our best tip for you is to find your closest jewellery store and get the proper measurements of your fingers. They will do the measuring for free and you'll be able to order the perfect size without any extra hazzle.

Planning to buy as a gift and trying to guess the size? Most average ring size for smaller hands is 17 and for bigger hands 19. It's good to keep in mind that most humans have 10 fingers that vary in sizes, therefore most average ring sizes should be good for at least one of the fingers 🤝

Also if you mess up the size, we can change the ring to the right size afterwards. No problemo!
